Every three to four years, Foundation staff and Board members review and refresh our priority theme areas in light of the results of the Listening for Direction consultation with healthcare system leaders across Canada. For the next three to five years, the Foundation’s work will focus on the following four themes:
Cross-Cutting Themes
Alongside the adoption of the above priorities, the Foundation remains committed to both Nursing and Primary healthcare as important cross-cutting themes and fundamental elements of high performing healthcare systems. There is still much work to be done to build capacity for research and research use in these areas and the Foundation will work in partnership with others to support initiatives that aim to address these gaps such as the NRF evaluation and the pan-Canadian working group on primary healthcare improvement.
Existing work commitments that have already been initiated in past theme areas will be maintained and supported as per current agreements.
The Listening for Direction process is designed to identify the important and pressing issues in the management and organization of health service delivery that would benefit from an investment in research. These issues are then “translated” into certain broad theme areas with examples of researchable questions in terms of synthesis and new research.
